Part Time Work From Home Jobs
You might think I am veering off my usual health and wellness posts today. Well, not really, when you think about it. You see, I am a big believer in the notion that great mental health can lead to great physical health. I know way too many people who are very miserable at their jobs or who are struggling to make ends meet and could use some extra cash. Before I started teaching, I was always looking for part time work from home jobs so I have tried several different things.
Individuality Applies to Part Time Work from Home Jobs Too
If you follow other posts from us, you will know by now that we are all about individuality. How you eat, what your ideal weight is, etc. are all very unique to each one of us. Guess what? That also goes for finding a good job fit! Our approach to wellness is holistic and career is included because it is such a huge part of our lives.
Whether you are trying to just make a few extra dollars to pay bills or have a long term goal of quitting your job, these ideas can get you started.
It has to fit.
So, why were many of the things I tried not a good fit? First of all, I never took a good look into what would fit well for me. I just kinda jumped right in all impetuous-like. No wonder most things didn't pan out.
I started out by trying a direct sales company (and I tried a few different ones) Each leader told me that I did not need to be a sales person. "The product will sell itself. You just have to share your love for the product." And that was not entirely false. Nor was it entirely true.
Sales is okay.
Great products do practically sell themselves and your passion for something can be contagious. However, you do have to be a sales oriented person to some degree, or how else will you make any money at it? Either you're selling yourself as a leader, selling the product, or the business opportunity.
You can tell yourself you're just sharing but let's be real, it's a sales job and that is OKAY! There is absolutely nothing wrong or negative about that.
I still believe that direct marketing can be one of the great part time work from home jobs, but just not for everyone.
Part Time Work From Home Jobs Ideas
Nine to Five jobs are just not for everyone, but who doesn’t want to be able to live life more on their terms versus a boss or company's terms? I know I would love to be able to make my own schedule and take breaks or even travel whenever I want to.
So, whenever I hear of someone who is actually taking the plunge for real; actually quit that day job to work from home, I wonder. What does it really take? So, I actually interviewed one brave young lady who is doing just that.
You can read the details of the interview below.
Use this as a Work from Home Jobs Idea Platform
There's no doubt in my mind that you've likely read similar posts and left them feeling let down. I know I read my share of them! I hope I don't let you down with this one.
Like I said above, I took the time to interview one lovely young lady who is very successful with her business so you could learn something of value. What it really takes to be successful at working from home.
I can't possibly cover every idea out there so I encourage you to use this post as a brainstorming platform. Take an interest inventory and look deep into what passions you have because you may as well enjoy doing your job every day, right?
Each of these part time work from home choices requires:
- working hard
- being dedicated
- self motivation
- having some time and/or money to invest (how much of each depends on your end goal and your job choice)
Okay, here are a few part time work from home jobs to consider:
1.) If you like Reading and Writing Try Freelance Writing or Editing-
There are so many people like us at lettucethrive.com who blog about all kinds of topics. Did you know that when time is limited we sometimes rely on hiring other people to write for us? Of course we make updates and check for accuracy and all that. But if you like to write, you can absolutely make some extra cash working for bloggers.
You can check out a convenient company called fiverr.com Or, you can start advertising yourself in social media and skip the middle man altogether. You can also find freelance work from home jobs on many job boards.
If writing really is your thing, you can also get paid to write product reviews, and resumes, and there are just too many options to list.
The one part time work from home gig that eventually worked out for me was an editing job that I stumbled across. I spent about a year and half editing profiles for Sittercity.com. It fit perfectly into my life at that time.
2.) If you are geared towards teaching, try Tutoring-
You can make big money tutoring! You can specialize in SAT preparation or Algebra. Pretty much any subject matter needs tutors. Get yourself connected with the schools. You do not have to be a certified teacher to be a tutor.
I know a teacher who recently quit full time teaching to tutor on her own schedule and she reported making more money this year. She is working a little over half the number of hours she worked before.
And she is doing it from her dining room table! When I asked her, she said she just grew organically with word of mouth referrals. She lives in a large area so it wasn't long before her schedule was booked solid.
3.) Great at closing the deal? Why not look into Direct Sales?
This is a great opportunity with potential for big earnings. This is for people who want to work hard and are okay with selling as I discussed before. Please read the interview questions at the end of this post if you are looking into this option for yourself.
I like that there are so many options to pick from in this arena. You can really individualize and choose what best suits you in regards to the company you choose and products they sell.
I know you've heard of companies like these before. Just a couple I can think of are, Mary Kay which has a great reputation and longevity. There's also Doterra Oils, Younique, and MyDailyChoice. Try a simple google search and you will come up with many more.
4.) Some people just have the knack for Child Care-
Do you love kids? Could your own child benefit from having a playmate for a few hours a week? Parents will pay a good amount of money for a mature, trustworthy childcare provider! It may be wise for you to check out your insurance policies related to this choice before you jump in.
Unfortunately accidents can happen even when you do everything right. You can get a daycare certification or license which may allow you to expand to taking on more children, hired help, and you can be on your way to earning more money if you so desire.
5.) Just about anyone can start Blogging-
Hey that's what I am doing right this very moment! I work full time as a special education math teacher and am building this blog of ours on the side. The blog was started with my daughters as a means to make some residual income for my disabled daughter. We are pleased with how much I enjoy the challenges associated with it.
However, it takes a long time to build up a large following. Some people think all they have to do is write and the followers will come. There is a whole lot more to it, as I am learning. But it is a legitimate choice and worth checking out.
One Real Blog Success Story
If you have blogging doubts, I'd love to use Lisa from Lowcarbyum as an inspiring example. She started one blog herself with her love of cooking and eating healthy low carb meals and desserts.
She was recently invited to a big bloggers conference and is now able to work her business full time. Now she has a couple successful blog sites!
It took a few years and lot of work but it can be done as you can see. Take a look at her site, especially if you aspire to be a food and recipes blogger.
Aimee's Younique Testimony (Part Time Work from Home Turned Full Time)
Aimee Mueller is a 25 year old Younique Presenter. This is a link to her web page if you ever wanted to try her awesome products or speak to her about her experiences. Take a peek at some of the wise things she says below! She is making her health and happiness a priority.
1.) When did you decide you wanted to work from home and live life on your terms?
Two years ago I realized that a normal 9-5 wasn’t for me! There was more I could be doing with my time than sitting at a desk all day. I felt trapped, taken advantage of and unappreciated. Quitting my job was not an option so I knew I had to find another way!! Almost one year ago today I was offered an opportunity to start my own business. At first I was skeptical but after some consideration, I decided to take the plunge!
2.) Why did you make this decision?
I knew that I didn’t want to spend the next 40 years of my life doing something I wasn’t proud of, or something that didn’t make me want to jump out of bed every morning. Living my life on my terms rather than someone else’s is what I really wanted.
Therefore, I kept listening to and reading self development books/audio books and that helped motivate me to make my decision. I really wanted a quality life that I was actually happy to live rather than just going through the motions to make everyone else around me happy or proud of me. I was living my life for other people and not for myself.
3.) How scary was it to make the choice?
So scary! My business is social media-based so at first all I thought about was what everyone was going to think. I was so worried about what everyone else’s opinions were, that it was getting in the way of my life. I knew I was going to be judged, made fun of, and doubted but I was okay with that because I also knew I was going to motivate and help so many other women in the process.
I’m glad I didn’t let my fear stop me. At first I was balancing a full time job as well as a part time business so any free time that I had before was out the door. I knew what results could come if I just kept focused and busy. After giving up my freedom for a few short months I gained so much more in return.
By the time 8 months passed, I was able to quit my 9-5 job and have full control on how I wanted to spend my time. I gained time for myself, my health, and my family. I also have gained more self confidence, more friendships, and more happiness.
4.) Have you ever regretted it?
Of course. Having your own business, especially a business in sales is always risky. You’re going to have good months and bad months. It’s almost like a roller coaster. Those good months you're on such a high and feel amazing, but just around the corner could be a bad month and you just have to keep riding it out until your back up at the top.
Having your own business you really have to keep yourself motivated. You are truly your own boss. Also, the shop never closes which means no days off. At times I feel as if I’m working harder and putting more time in than a normal 9-5. But, I’m doing something that I love so “working” 7 days a week isn’t a problem for me.
When I’m in the low months and feel discouraged I always remember WHY I started and how much I have gained along the way and to me, that is ALL worth it.
5.) Are you really making enough money?
At first I wasn’t making as much money as I wanted to. Not many people knew I had my own business so it took time to get my name out there. The first 6 months I made only a few hundred dollars that I used to either put back in my business, save, or but things for myself.
It wasn’t until 8 months in, that I finally was making enough money to quit my full time job!! There is so much potential to make life changing money and I know that if I keep working hard I will get there. I’ve seen so much improvement over the past year and even more in just the last 4 months!
6.) How did you choose Younique and what makes you successful?
There’s a ton of MLM businesses to choose from, but right away I knew Younique was for me. There are a few things about Younique that really stand out
- The Younique Foundation. The Younique Foundation is a place where survivors of childhood sexual abuse find healing. It's called The Haven and is entirely funded by the Younique Foundation. It houses 90 women per month that are survivors of sexual abuse - all for free. A percentage of all orders go towards this foundation!
- Another big reason is that I get paid three hours after every sale. I don’t have to wait for my money to be in my bank account. I make a sale and boom I’m rewarded three hours later.
- If that’s not enough of a reason, there are no monthly minimums and no yearly fees. I get a free website, and I don’t have to keep stock on hand! Younique makes it super easy to get started and be successful!
7.) Many people join MLM companies yet most lose money so, what would you tell people who decide to join one?
Check for hidden fees which could be in the form of yearly or monthly minimums -
Many MLM businesses have monthly quotas, yearly fees, website fees and yearly/monthly minimums.
Make sure you don’t need to buy bulk stock of products -
Some MLM businesses require you to have stock and if you cannot sell it then you are stuck with no money and lots of unused products.
Treat it as a business and not as a hobby!
Consistency is key! I’ve noticed when I treat my business as business and not as a hobby, it pays as a hobby. This business isn’t a get rich quick scheme. It takes work but the rewards are well worth it.
Comparison is a killer.
Don't compare others' success to yourself. That's never productive.
Always remember WHY you started.
Many people will get discouraged and quit. Everybody’s journey is different for many different reasons.
I once heard someone compare MLM business to hiking.
Some people run up the trails, some people walk up, some people start first and get passed along the way. Then, of course, some people are already at the top, some people quit and go back go back down but, we’re all working towards the same goal.
To reach the top. The view from the top is the same but the journey along the way is different for everyone!
