Benefits of a Sauna with Far Infrared Therapy
First of All, Let's Talk History and Definitions
Steam baths for detoxification were originally used in Finland and from there, came the term sauna. The first saunas were just pits dug into the ground. Now, sauna's are found in homes, gyms, and spas around the world.
Furthermore, the term infrared sauna refers to the use of infrared rays to help the human body with the detox process.
As much as I love seeing Mother Nature's beautiful lights in the form of rainbows, these infrared rays are not visible to the naked eye. But trust me when I say they are just as beautiful. I can immediately feel the positive effects when I step into a FAR infrared sauna.
FAR Infrared lights are not visible because they have a lower, but longer wavelength (approximately between 800 nanometer to 1 millimeter).
According to NASA, William Herschel discovered infrared in 1800 after he conducted experimentation on measuring the difference between the colors in the visible spectrum.
So, What is Far Infrared Therapy and How Does it Work?
You may have heard about near infrared saunas too. What's the difference between the two? Well, the primary distinguishing factor between far and near infrared sauna is simply the size of the wavelength.
Both types of saunas employ healing benefits. However, far infrared sauna therapy tends to produce copious amounts of sweat to heal the body from within. And it's done through intense detoxification.
Sweating out Toxins
The human body releases and eradicates toxins and impurities that have the potential of causing multiple diseases by sweating. Toxins are harmful poisonous substances that contaminate human cells and are both produced internally as well as absorbed from the environment.
The elimination of such toxins is vital for the healthy functioning of the human body. The human body is naturally equipped to deal with flushing out toxins through the liver and kidneys, but an overabundance of these toxins can lead to physiological illnesses.
Illness happens due to the inability of the body to eliminate them at a normal pace. Essentially, having more toxins than your body can detox is what leads to some illnesses.
Here are Some Benefits of a Sauna with Far Infrared Therapy
Far infrared therapy successfully provides pain relief for ailments such as rheumatism and arthritis. Let’s identify some of the health hazards that can be curbed through the far infrared sauna therapy.
A study from Clinical Rheumatology in 2009 stated that 30 minutes of therapy twice a week caused a significant decrease in joint pain and stiffness with regard to arthritis.
In 2013, another study found that twenty minutes of far infrared sauna therapy thrice a week can significantly reduce arthritic symptoms.
Lyme disease is another ailment that can be relieved through infrared therapy. Through profuse sweating, it flushes out excess toxins and metals from the body as well as targets harmful bacteria.
It’s this elimination of toxins that make it a viable option for mold exposure as well and we will talk about that a little further on. Additionally, it’s much more effective than a traditional sauna since it penetrates much deeper into the skin to detoxify the body.
Many people buy a portable infrared sauna so they can do these detox sessions regularly.
Far Infrared Sauna therapy removes toxins from the body (especially fat-soluble toxins) by increasing the blood flow. The concentration of heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, water, soil, iron in the air, and consumable products can lead to multiple health issues.
Part of the issue with many of us who have Lyme disease is that we have toxicity from metals as well as infection. These metals make it difficult for us to heal.
Thankfully, this therapy helps release heavy metals such as cadmium, mercury, lead, nickel, antimony. Sweating is how it all comes out so dry yourself with a towel after you use your portable sauna or go get the far infrared therapy at an office.
On top of all this, we can excrete pesticide residue and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB’s) as well!
I am a huge fan of dark chocolate and sadly, cocoa beans tend to naturally pick up some lead and cadmium from the soil. Detoxing it out will be a good idea and these saunas can help.
One of the most well-known benefits of far infrared sauna therapy is its ability to burn calories due to its increased temperature of the body. You are likely to burn 600 calories in only one session of the far infrared sauna. I don't know about you, but for me to burn 600 calories I have to work pretty hard. The idea of being able to accomplish this in a relaxed setting is pretty appealing; especially if you have your own portable infrared sauna!
Due to mold exposure, mycotoxins start building up in your body and can cause numerous health scares. Far Infrared Sauna Therapy helps in mitigating the severe effects of mold exposure. Mold can really do a number on those who don't naturally detox well. Thankfully, infrared saunas are helping to relieve their symptoms.
Dr. Axe has provided his readers with some very useful information on the symptoms of mold exposure. Not only does he list and explain that for us, he offers some natural remedies which I personally find helpful. You should check out his post as well which I linked to above.
All in all, infrared therapy with a sauna is one alternative therapy that deserves great respect. It has proven valuable in curbing numerous medical ailments and is definitely one step towards providing relief and healing to patients.
