The Importance of Naturally Doing a Whole Body Cleanse
Why do a Whole Body Cleanse?
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve spoken to lately that say they’re doing some sort of Spring detox plan.
I don’t ask details anymore because I’m afraid of some of the answers I might get.
For example, drinking mega amounts of cider vinegar, fasting for long periods of time, or special lemonade cleanses.
Honestly some of them are great, but anything extreme just makes me cringe.
Detoxification is supposed to happen naturally. Our bodies have livers, kidneys, sweat glands, and elimination pathways made just for this purpose.
However, we are exposed to more chemicals and poisons today than our ancestors so I do believe we need some help.
The human body naturally self-heals and self-cleanses. We are meant to be vibrant and well and this can be achieved under near-perfect conditions.
However, in today’s hectic world, we live under unnatural conditions – and obviously, it affects our body’s self-healing and self-cleansing abilities.
For a healthy life, a good internal cleanse is extremely important and it can be achieved with the help of a detoxification program that helps your body’s natural processes.
It is important to note that a detox program helps the internal organs and improves the functionality of the lungs, lymphatic system, kidneys, and liver.
Given the fact that toxins build up in the body, our body’s natural detox process ensures that these harmful toxins are eliminated from the body.
So, before taking you on an informative tour on various ways you can do a whole body cleanse, let’s get know to know about toxins and why it is important to remove them from the body.
What are Toxins?
Given the fact that we are always in contact with pollutants and harmful organisms, it is quite difficult to limit our exposure to them – they are in the air we breathe, our food and even water.
Toxins can be from pollutants, chemicals, metals, pesticides in food, artificial food ingredients etc..
We ingest them or they are absorbed through the skin, our lungs, etc.
These substances can cause negative health effects. Even some naturally occurring substances and artificially created chemicals can be termed as toxins.
Since there is no practical way to limit the contact with toxins, there are some ways that can help you in counteracting pollutants and toxins.
For example, your body has natural detoxification processes that help in maintaining the functionality of your body’s internal organs.
Through a regular whole body cleanse, you can help your body perform detoxification processes in a much more effective manner.
How do you know you need to detox?
Well, pretty much everyone needs to detox. This is especially beneficial at the change of seasons.
We can thank the toxins we just talked about for our ongoing need to detox.
You skin could be an indicator that you may benefit from some detox practices.
Not only that, but your energy level, your level of sensitivity to foods and chemicals could also be a sign.
As you can see there are many possible signs that could indicate the need for a gentle and natural whole body detox.
We should help our bodies manage the toxic load by doing the things we talk about below.
Your Body and Detoxification
It is important to understand that the human body naturally detoxifies itself.
As a matter of fact, there are several systems in the body that play their role in removing waste.
For instance, the excretory system plays a major role via urination and defecation.
The excretory system is composed of vital organs such as kidneys, large intestine, liver, lungs, and skin (yes, the skin plays a major role with the help of sweat glands).
It is the liver’s job to excrete and filter harmful substances, waste, drugs, and hormones from the body.
The lungs ensure that carbon monoxide is removed, the kidneys remove waste from the body by filtering the blood from toxins and the large intestine absorbs water and nutrients from the food.
It goes without saying that your body is continuously detoxifying itself, 24/7.
Since most organs are working continuously to remove toxins from your body, it is important to take care of them and take necessary measures to ensure that they keep on working properly.
Natural Ways to Detox Your Body with a whole body cleanse
Start The Day Right…Drink Lots of Water!
Drinking a glass of spring water (empty stomach) with freshly squeezed lemon juice can help in flushing a lot of toxins from the body and jumpstarting your day into the detox process.
Water is essential to sustain life and extremely important for your liver to properly function.
Water is vital for your liver to perform in processing toxins in the body.
Just keep in mind that an average adult needs to drink up to 1 gallon of water a day. Some us need less so talk to your doctor to determine the safe amount for your body.
Increase Your Trips to the Bathroom
Drinking a lot of water will automatically land you in the washroom more than you normally would.
When you pee or sweat, you are actually physically removing fat and toxins from your body.
Given the fact that most toxins are stored in body fat, you are eliminating more fat and toxins from your body through peeing.
The More You Sweat, The Better It is-But don’t overheat or get dehydrated in the process!
One of the most natural and powerful methods to do a whole body cleanse is sweating.
There are various ways that can assist you in sweating more than you usually do e.g. workout, exercising etc.
But a detox process such as infrared saunas can be really helpful when doing a whole body cleanse, because they benefit a person by relaxing him/her in a healing environment.
This environment also specifically encourages excessive sweating.
Your Diet Matters-A Lot!
By eating whole foods and eliminating toxic oils from your diet (canola oil, vegetable oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil etc.), you can naturally detoxify your body.
You can use healthy substitute oils such as coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, etc.
You can also use spring foods like leafy greens and asparagus that get harvested in spring and have natural detox properties.
Cleansing foods grow in the Spring precisely when our bodies are in need of getting out the winter sludge!
The weather starts to change and we have more warmth, days get longer, and we become more physically active.
Now, here is a list of foods that can help in achieving whole body cleansing:
- Fruits with high liquid content, antioxidants, fiber, nutrients, and vitamins such as pears, apples, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, etc.
- Green foods such as spinach, alfalfa, arugula, kale etc. There is chlorophyll in green foods that provide a detoxifying boost to your digestive tract
And a few More:
- Garlic helps in producing detoxification enzymes by the liver and filtering toxic residues as well
- Raw vegetables such as carrots, cabbage, onions, asparagus, beet, garlic, turmeric, oregano etc.
- Broccoli sprouts are high in antioxidants and are quite effective in stimulating detoxification enzymes in the liver
- Seeds and nuts such as almonds, flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds etc.
It is also important to have a healthy gut to properly digest these detoxifying foods. Read more about gut health here.
- Try to Move Your Body and Be Active
The goal for you is to get the blood flowing because it can help in removing toxins from the body through sweat.
There is no need for intensive exercise because restorative exercise is enough to achieve a total body cleanse.
You can try restorative movement and exercise such as Pilates, yoga, walking etc.
- Use the Dry Brushing Technique
Do you want to increase the circulation of blood throughout your body? Then you should dry dry brushing.
A dry brushing technique can be really effective! This, improvement of vascular blood circulation, helps in shedding dead cells, and encourages lymphatic drainage.
We discussed how to do lymphatic drainage in a previous post. Just click the link to head over there for more information on that.
When you use this technique, you’ll experience a noticeable change.
- Use Healthy Detox Supplements
We should always choose an all natural detox supplement. The right detox supplements are very effective.
Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) is a widely known detox supplement known for its blood purifying properties.
People use this effectively for liver and lymphatic support all over the world.
Takesumi, which is basically bamboo charcoal can also assist you with detoxing.
We talked about this supplement in the lymphatic drainage and lyme natural healing posts as well.
Now this type of short term calorie restriction shows lots of promise!
*It is not for everyone and if you are pregnant or diabetic or have any other health concerns you may not want to restrict calories.
But, did you know you can incorporate this into your day relatively easily and reap the amazing detox benefits that IF provides?
According to Dr. John Douillard at Lifespa, you can eat a light breakfast, a huge satisfying and relaxing lunch, and a light and early dinner.
Then you will ‘fast’ for 12-14 hours before you break it again at break-fast.
Doing this will allow you to continue to get your nutritional needs met by eating at a time of day when your body is best able to digest (lunch time).
And most of the fasting is done at a time when your body naturally wants to rest and sleep anyway.
Seems almost too simple to be effective, but it’s not!

which explains how weight loss is a side effect of following just a few steps including the intermittent fasting method we just mentioned. .
